one-act opera with silhouettes and circus!
Sitting across an old rusted table from my shrink last October, a few things came to light. One, she doesn’t accept furniture coupons from the ValuePak mailer for payment. Two, as a stuffed doll with two mouths she surprisingly still hasn’t learned to speak. And three, I’m having a hard time letting go of Carnival of Psychos. The music keeps flying around my head like Chinese New Year fireworks. Visions of silhouettes keep turning cartwheels across the insides of my eyelids. I keep drooling. I’m either obsessed with this show or my mind is becoming a gelatinous bowl of jelly noodles someone left out in the alley. My shrink said nothing yet I heard her loud and clear. Carnival of Psychos will be wheeling into The Great Star Theater in San Francisco on April 18.
Carnival of Psychos is a one-act opera with silhouettes and circus. The synopsis? Patient 51 escapes an insane asylum, falls headfirst into a traveling carnival and flees across the desert from the authorities—a wake of vultures. Carnival of Psychos isn’t a place, but a theatrical escape hatch into terror and lunacy.
In September, we performed in Oakland, CA and the crazy meter reached unrecoverable heights. The Great Star Theater appeared on my radar and now the madness of Carnival of Psychos extends its reach with 100% of the brain melt still intact.
For the better part of the year my shrink lives in a box under a mountain of bike parts, bags of garling and paint cans in a garage. But once a year she comes out, her head a pancake that needs to be blown up like a balloon, but she’s still beady-eyed and intense, and her nose for insanity is unmatched.
Carnival of Psychos runs April 18, one night only, at The Great Star Theater in San Francisco in the heart of Chinatown. Tickets go on sale today. There are three price tiers, three levels of madness. Come out, you psychos.
See you at the show.
