A pungent smell of garlic punched me in the nose yesterday and I remembered something. Two years ago when I was promoting CIRCUS SCREAMS, a circus music show where everyone died, Natasha Kaluza commented on my Facebook post, "Not for the faint of heart! Come get your Halloween on in June!" Then and there I decided my next show would be in October. And for fright sake here we are. POISON CIRCUS is in the fire brewing. Spooky organ music is bouncing off the rafters. Vocal operatics are shaking the windows. And harrowing circus acts are smoking everyone out. Come get your Halloween on in October!
MUSIC UPDATE: Weeks ago when I delivered music for POISON CIRCUS to the band. The next day the organist called me and quit on the spot saying he was scared of the music. He's been replaced by the fearless Paul Dab from the opera world. Unflappable, the show goes on.
Music for POISON CIRCUS has not been recorded. The score, the story, the circus performances it's all a world premiere. Speaking of music. While screamers are in my blood and unofficially copyrighted by me, I have written other forms of music for POISON CIRCUS. There will also be rags and art songs. For my music nerd fans, ragtime was popular during the turn of the century—189? to 191?. They were first performed on streets and in saloons and were made popular if they were arranged for a well known marching band like the John Philip Sousa band. I say all this like I've studied. I haven't. I read record sleeves. Art song has been around since the plague. All three musical forms: rags, art song and screamers with a healthy dose of Samson Y Hiss' cacophony will be stirred up to score the circus music show, POISON CIRCUS.
Every other circus in the world (brazen groundless claim) starts with circus. I start with music. Some will find it scary, some will find it cantankerous, some will want to move their bodies uncontrollably. A musical tale of transmogrify is coming in two weeks! Get your tickets!
