From tent windows left to right: Nina Jones, Taylor Thompson and Be Nasty. I am the vulture.
NOTES FROM THE RECORDING STUDIO VOCALS EDITION
Studio time can be grueling, especially when I'm mic’ed, but our latest recording session was pure aural pleasure with Nina Jones the mezzo soprano, Taylor Thompson the tenor and Be Nasty the now famous rapper. Nina was a carnival fairy who suffered from mental loss and they were stuck like pickles in a jar, and then they were a therapist at the insane asylum. Their witchy pitches and ferocious belts were ear tingling. Taylor brought his dual personalities: Manhattan as head nurse, and Lead Vulture. Hunting a rat through a carnival of July 4 fireworks and teenage body odor never sounded so appetizing. And no one can laugh maniacally like Taylor. During a break, Taylor also recorded “Lately” by Stevie Wonder for his husband and an original composition he wrote. It was his first time in the studio, but you wouldn't know it. Taylor performed like a vet. Next, we recorded Be Nasty who was shadowed by his son, Batman Junior. In two takes, Nasty laid down spoken word for “Dead Alone” which was composed in the form of a poem by a local poet in Oakland. His performance was crisp and dramatic,”House fly?” All the things a hungry spider craves.
Up next? My percussion crashes, whistles, endless kazoo and rolling a tom drum down the stairs—everyday studio stunts for the Hiss. After I close out the recording sessions for Carnival of Psychos we mix, we master, and we go mad.
