“Not your usual night at the opera. Live music, circus spectacle, stunt performance, something wild, unhinged, and impossible to ignore." —Theater Review

Carnival of Psychos premieres in San Francisco this Saturday. People are talking. People are confused. The rush of insanity is palpable. Before I get wound up with glass walkers, illusions and tuba singing, re-play this “something wild.”

Carnival of Psychos is a one-act opera with silhouettes and circus. The theatrical experience features an original story, operatic vocals, silhouettes on overhead projector, circus performers, stunt artists, and a live band of carnies. Synopsis? Patient 51 escapes an insane asylum, falls headfirst into a traveling carnival and flees across the desert from the authorities—a wake of vultures. Carnival of Psychos isn't a place, but a theatrical escape hatch into terror and lunacy. Get tickets to this “impossible to ignore” show.

Carnival of Psychos was inspired by a trip to the psych ward. In the waiting room I waited impatiently. The walls and ceiling were puss white and the cold linoleum floors were scuffed by struggling shoes who ultimately lost the fight. Medical staff moved between the hall and a large double door framed with warning lights. Passing through the security door, they left bursts of noise in their wake that sounded like a carnival. “Not your usual night.“

Carnival of Psychos premieres in San Francisco in three days. Come closer and listen closely. Operatic vocals by in-demand singers, silhouettes by a shadow puppet artist in Italy, glass walking and illusions by Big Top circus talent, and cacophonous music by world traveled musicians. Nothing will leave your ears tingling, head spinning, mouth agape like a boy at a peepshow and wanting more than Carnival of Psychos. Get tickets to the “Live music. circus spectacle.”

It wouldn't be a Hiss Production if there wasn’t an opening act. Discovered on the pages of the 2026 Accordion Babes calendar, July’s, Sasha Waniewski, and her partner will be opening Carnival of Psychos.

The brain melt starts Saturday, April 18, for one night only at The Great Star Theater in San Francisco. Get tickets, you psychos.

See you at the show.
